There are several conditions that make it mandatory to apply for a Location Permit. For example:
- Location Permits are required for filming and commercials in major cities and government buildings.
- Nature and wildlife documentary filming in exotic locations.
- Video recording or photography in wedding destinations.
Location Permits for filming and video shooting are granted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Indonesia.

Procedures and Requirements for Location and Filming Permits
In addition to location permits, you also need Permits for video shooting and filming. Approval or denial will be issued within seven (7) working days, if the application is complete. It is recommended that you submit the application 6 to 8 weeks prior to the scheduled filming.
Foreign companies are required to submit the application along with the required documents through the Indonesian Representative Office in their home country.
Documents and information that must be included include:
- Signed application form and letter of intent.
- Resumes of applicants and crew members.
- Letter with production purpose.
- Date of company establishment and company profile.
- Names and titles of crew members.
- Letter of solvency from bank guarantors in home country and Indonesia.
- Passport copies of all crew members.
- Schedule and location of filming.
- Screenplay and movie synopsis.
- List of filming equipment along with a statement of re-export after production is completed in Indonesia.
Foreign Media Journalists and Editors
Foreign media journalists and editors, both print and electronic media (magazines, newspapers, radio, television, etc.) visiting Indonesia to shoot videos, conduct reporting and other tasks must apply for a permit to the Indonesian government.
Foreigners can submit the application themselves through representatives in Indonesia to the Directorate of Information and Media and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Along with the completed visa application form, foreign journalists are also required to submit the following documents:
- A letter of recommendation from the sponsor.
- A letter stating the areas to be visited in Indonesia and the people to be interviewed.
- A list of questions to be used in the interview.
- Personal details and resume of the journalist.
- List of equipment and electronic devices to be imported and used in Indonesia.
- A signed letter of obligation for compliance with Indonesian Law.
