Note! Only These Six Subjects Can Obtain an Indonesian Family Reunification Visa

Corporate Secretary Service Indonesia – A family reunification visa is a limited stay visa (VITAS) like Dependent Visa that facilitates foreigners (OA) to join their families in Indonesia. This visa is indexed C317 and has a validity period of six months to two years. Unfortunately, not everyone with family in Indonesia can apply for this type of visa.

“Not everyone who claims to be family with Indonesian citizens or foreigners in Indonesia can apply for a family reunification visa,” explained the Sub-Coordinator of Public Relations of the Directorate General of Immigration, Achmad Nur Saleh.

The following are categories of foreigners who can obtain a limited stay visa like Dependent Visa for family reunification according to the Decree of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number M.HH-3 GR.01.01 of 2022:

Couple Category

1. Foreigners who join their Indonesian husband or wife. For foreigners who are legally married to their Indonesian husband/wife, they can apply for a family reunification visa by attaching a marriage book/marriage certificate translated by a sworn translator (except English) and a letter of proof of marriage reporting from an Indonesian representative (if the marriage was conducted abroad) as one of the supporting documents.
2. Foreigners who join their husband or wife who hold a limited stay permit and permanent stay permit

Child Category

1. Children from a legal marriage between a foreigner and an Indonesian citizen
2. Children of a foreigner legally married to an Indonesian citizen. OA children here are children who are under the guardianship of a foreigner who is legally married to an Indonesian citizen. The child must be under the age of 18 and not yet married.
3. Children who join parents who hold ITAS/ITAP. OA children who fall into this category are children from a legitimate marriage with a foreigner, under 18 years old, and unmarried.
4. Children who have a legal family relationship with an Indonesian father and/or mother. Foreigners with an Indonesian mother/father or both Indonesian citizens can also apply for a family reunification visa.

Generally, the requirements for a Family Reunification Visa application include a letter of application and guarantee, an OA passport, and proof of ownership of funds (savings account) worth at least USD 2000. For the spouse category, attaching a marriage book/marriage certificate translated by a sworn translator (except English) and a letter of proof of marriage reporting from an Indonesian representative (if the marriage was conducted abroad) is necessary. For the child category, the supporting documents that need to be attached are a birth certificate translated into Indonesian by a sworn translator unless it is already in English. For OAs that unite with an ITAS/ITAP holder, attaching the parent’s residence permit is necessary.

Don’t forget that OAs who have entered Indonesia with this type of VITAS must take care of their stay permit at the immigration office within 30 days; otherwise, their visa will be considered void, and they must leave Indonesia. For information, based on Government Regulation Number 28 of 2019 concerning PNBP rates within the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the cost of issuing this type of VITAS is USD150 per application plus a Limited Stay Visa approval fee of IDR200,000 per application.
