Who is Allowed to Obtain a Permanent Stay Permit (KITAP)?

Corporate Secretary Service Indonesia – Kartu Izin Tinggal Tetap / Permanent Stay Permit (KITAP) is one of the residence permits for foreigners in Indonesia, KITAP can be considered as a step before becoming an Indonesian citizen according to the Immigration Law, the validity period of KITAP allows foreigners to stay in Indonesia for 5 years which makes it different from the Limited Stay Permit Card (KITAS).

Unlike KITAP, the validity period of KITAS allows foreign nationals to stay in Indonesia for a maximum of 2 years. They are required to renew it every year when the permit expires if they still want to stay in Indonesia. In other words, if you are a KITAP holder, you don’t have to renew it every year like a KITAS, which means that by getting a KITAP, you are not required to have a photo and biometric session at the immigration office every year. It is simpler than KITAS, but it should be noted that to get KITAP you must get KITAS first and must renew it 3 times, to apply for KITAS, before you apply for Permanent Stay Permit (KITAP).

Who Can Be a KITAP Sponsor?

To obtain KITAP, you also need to have a sponsor. Those who are eligible to be sponsors are spouses or companies. For foreign investors, leaders or foreigners with the highest position working in Indonesian companies, are eligible for KITAP when they have worked for one company for three consecutive years in the same position, the validity of which needs to be proven by supporting documents.

Is Every Foreigner Eligible for KITAP?

Unfortunately, not everyone can apply for Permanent Stay Permit (KITAP), below is a list of foreigners who are eligible for KITAP:

Foreigners who are married to Indonesian citizens

Foreign investors, leaders, and foreigners in high positions

Generally, investors and expats working in Indonesia are KITAS holders. Furthermore, foreigners who have used KITAS as investors and leaders first for the past three years, and after that, can be exchanged into KITAP.
