Is Visa On Arrival the Same as Visa Not Required?

Indonesian nomad visa – Foreign travelers who want to travel or visit family in Indonesia may have difficulty choosing between a Visa on Arrival (VoA) and a Tourist Visit Visa (VKW).

According to the Decree of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Number M.HH-02.GR.01.04 of 2023 concerning Visa Classification, VoA and VKW are both used for tourism activities, family visits, or transit. There are several differences between a Visa on Arrival and a Tourist Visit Visa.

 Differences between Visa on Arrival and Tourist Visit Visa

1. Visa index

Visa on Arrival uses the B1 index, while the Tourist Visit Visa uses the C1 index.nBased on the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number 24 of 2016 concerning Technical Procedures for Application and Granting of Visit Visas and Limited Stay Visas, the visa index is a classification code consisting of letters and numbers.

2. Country

Visa on Arrival can only be applied for by certain countries. It is recorded that there are only 97 countries that can get a Visa on Arrival or Visit Visa on Arrival (VKSK). Meanwhile, a Tourist Visit Visa can be applied for by any country.

3. Duration of stay

In the first grant, Visa on Arrival holders are allowed to stay in Indonesia for 30 days. Unlike Visa on Arrival, Tourist Visit Visa holders can stay up to 60 days.

4. Cost

The cost of applying for a Visa on Arrival starts from IDR 500,000, while the cost of applying for a Tourist Visit Visa starts from IDR 1.5 million or three times that.

5. Submission

A Visa on Arrival can be obtained directly at the Immigration Checkpoint upon arrival either at the airport or port.

Prospective international travelers can also apply for it in advance online (online) via the evisa.imgrasi.go.id page.

Meanwhile, a Tourist Visit Visa can be applied for online by first creating an account on the evisa.imigrasi.go.id page.

6. Approval

Visa on Arrival can be directly granted to foreign travelers who apply, either directly or online, without having an account or guarantor.

This is different from the Tourist Visit Visa. This is because foreign travelers must have an account and/or guarantor first, and wait for the verification process for about five working days. If the visa is approved, an electronic visa will be sent to the email.

7. Extension

Visa on Arrival can only be extended once for the next 30 days. This can be done online at evisa.imigrasi.go.id or by coming directly to any immigration office in the country.

The Tourist Visit Visa can be extended up to total stay of 180 days. Extension can be done online via the evisa.imigrasi.go.id page or come directly to any immigration office in the country.
