You need to come to the immigration office to change your Limited Stay Visa (VITAS) to KITAS. Based on Article 1 point 15 of Permenkumham 29/2021, a visa of the Republic of Indonesia, hereinafter referred to as a visa, is a written statement, either manually or electronically, given by an authorized official to travel to the territory of Indonesia and becomes the basis for granting a residence permit.

Changing VITAS to KITAS

When your passport is scanned upon entering Indonesia, your electronic VITAS will be converted into a Limited Stay Permit Card (KITAS) or Limited Stay Permit (ITAS).

Civil Records and Reporting

Foreigners who already have ITAS/KITAS with their wives as guarantors still need to return to civil registration at the relevant department. After 14 days of ITAS/KITAS issuance, you can do this:

• Within 14 days after the KITAS is issued, foreigners with KITAS/ITAS sponsored by a spouse must register at the Civil Administration Department.
• Submit all the documents required for this process to the Civil Administration Department.
• The Civil Administration Department will then provide you with SKTT (Certificate of Residence) and STM (Surat Tanda Melapor).

2. Not understanding the required documents

Documents for foreigners

CNI (Certificate of No Impediment) aka single letter, which is a certificate stating that you can marry and will marry an Indonesian citizen. This letter is issued by an authorized agency in the country, such as an embassy.

• Photocopy of identity card (KTP) from the country of origin of the prospective husband or wife
• Photocopy of passport
• Photocopy of birth certificate
• Certificate of not being in a marital status
• Divorce certificate if you have been married
• Death Certificate of marriage partner if deceased
• Certificate of current domicile
• 2×3 (4 sheets) and 4×6 (4 sheets) passport photos
• For marriage at the KUA, one must include a Mualaf certificate if one is previously a non-Muslim religion.

Requirements that must be met to obtain a CNI from a foreign embassy

• Latest birth certificate (original)
• Photocopy of identity card (KTP) from the country of origin
• Copy of passport
• Proof of residence or letter of domicile (can be a photocopy of a telephone or electricity bill)
• The marriage form from the embassy concerned

Well, all these letters must be translated into Indonesian by a sworn translator. Then legalize by the embassy of the foreigner’s country in Indonesia.

Documents for Indonesian citizens

• A letter of introduction from RT/RW states that there are no obstacles to the marriage.
• Forms N1, N2, and N4 from the Kelurahan and Kecamatan.
• Form N3 for those getting married at the KUA (a letter of consent from the bride and groom that must be signed by both parties)
• Photocopy of ID card
• Copy of birth certificate
• Data of the parents of the bride and groom
• Copy of family card (KK)
• Parents’ marriage book (only if you are the first child)
• Data of two witnesses to the marriage and photocopies of their ID cards
• Photographs of 2×3 (4 sheets) and 4×6 (4 sheets)
• Proof of the last PBB (Land and Building Tax) payment
• Prenup (pre-marriage agreement)

Indonesian citizen documents requested by foreign embassies:

• Original birth certificate and photocopy
• Photocopy of ID card
• Photocopy of N1, N2 and N4 letters from Kelurahan
• Copy of prenup (if any)
